The upper income stats they throw around with these stories are extreme cases, like 300% of the poverty level in NEW YORK, which does not apply to the country as a whole. The federal poverty levels are used in most states, but the exceptions get the headlines. And the fact remains that average families cannot afford comprehensive health coverage for all family members. The pundits with the most press have no clue what its like being “average”, or “median” either.
All I have to go on is the fact that I am nowhere near living-in-my-car poor (not that I haven’t been there) and I cannot afford health insurance. My entire health plan is to simply not ever get sick.
