1943: James Hatsuki Wakasa, a 63-year-old Japanese-American chef, is shot to death by a sentry at a concentration camp while allegedly trying to escape through a fence; a postmortem examination of the entry and exit wounds finds that Wakasa was facing the soldier who shot him; at the subsequent court-martial, the soldier is found “not guilty”

1974: The House Judiciary Committee first issues a subpoena to President Richard Nixon to produce tapes for an impeachment inquiry; he pretty much ignores it
