It’s time for another edition of Local Crank Spotlight!

A recent guest commentary by Morton K. Brussel angered me. Anyone who truly believes that “standing for the national anthem” is a “mind-numbing” experience has no right to live in this country and enjoy its privileges.
—Norma Heck, in a letter to the News-Gazette
I wanted to know more about Ms. Heck and her universe, but all I was able to find was this review of the Panasonic KXTG2583W Cordless Phone/Answering System (White):
Excellent phone. Easy to use, no complicated instructions. Message waiting light blinks, no irritating “beep”. The only criticism is some echo when talking on handset with volume on high. Has all the features you could want. I especially like that you can either dial first, then press “talk” to send the call, allowing you to see if the number you’ve dialed is correct, or if you prefer you can press “talk” first, then dial, whichever option you choose. Also, you have the option of answering the handset by just picking it up without pressing “talk”. Great phone!
Five stars! Way to go, Panasonic!
