Most of the wingnut chortling over Derrick Shareef’s Rockford mall “jihad” seems to have died down. I guess they’ve twigged to the fact that he just sounds like a random stupo who just as easily could have identified with any other religion.
The affidavit reads like a comedy script, and it definitely left me with some questions. Like what if he got the idea for his “War on Christmas” from Bill O’Reilly? Oh, wait, no — because it’s a matter of public record that he got the idea from the FBI informant. Sounds like that was probably his only “friend” in Rockford, too. Everybody go “aaaaaw.”
Federal officials said they had no record of a permanent address for Shareef. They said he was born in the U.S. and lived in various cities throughout the country, most recently in several locations in Rockford. Authorities said they had no information on whether he was a student or employed anywhere in Rockford.

According to the FBI, the suspect was acting alone and without accomplices or ties to the American Muslim community. We urge the public not to associate the alleged criminal acts of an individual with the Muslim community or the faith of Islam.
We also take this opportunity to reiterate the Muslim community’s consistent condemnation of religious extremism and acts of terrorism committed in the name of Islam.
Aaaaand in the wonderful world of Fox News:
Kasich began by noting that “the authorities are downplaying” the Shareef incident. (Comment: because it appears that there’s not much there, there — even Drudge has taken it off his webpage.)

Hey, did Fox have anything to say about that white right-wing extremist who wanted to blow up Congress? Just wondering.
