Iva Toguri D’Aquino, who was once accused of being World War II broadcaster Tokyo Rose, died Tuesday in Chicago at age 90, a relative said.

D’Aquino’s attorney and longtime friend Wayne Collins described her as “a great lady.”

“I don’t think she had any rancor … after all she went through,” he said Tuesday evening. “For 20 years, nobody even considered the possibility of her innocence.”

Even though D’Aquino was vindicated, the statement from the family spokeswoman said, she “was never able to fully escape from the shadow of Tokyo Rose.”
