GLEN’S IRISH HAPPY HOUR RIDES AGAIN

… for one night only.

From Glen:

On Tuesday, August 14, I’ll be returning to DJ an Irish Tuesday Reunion at Mike and Molly’s in Champaign, IL. Those of you who remember the days of yore know what this is, and I expect to see every one of you there. Those of you who don’t owe it to yourselves to visit a place for an event once described, to paraphrase a Federal law enforcement agent, as the place “where those terrorists hang out.”

There are three main reasons for doing this. First, Tommy Makem, the Godfather of Irish folk music, passed away last week. We’ll have an opportunity to remember him and the Clancy Brothers (who are almost all dead, too). Second, our dear friend Chef Ra of High Times magazine, a cab driver and PBR aficionado extraordinaire, died last Christmas. We’ll be remembering him through recordings and stories, and, well, PBR and lemon drops. Third, I haven’t done this in years, and since I’m going to be stuck, errrr, staying in, Champaign for a couple days, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Here’s the low down:

What: Irish Tuesday Happy Hour Reunion
When: Tuesday, August 14, around 5:30pm to 9pm-ish.
Where: Mike and Molly’s, 105 N. Market Street, Champaign, IL

Thanks ya’ll,

Glen

QUOTE OF THE MOMENT

During the Middle Ages, probably one of the biggest mistakes was not putting on your armor because you were “just going down to the corner.”

16 June
Bloomsday
Worldwide

The nearest celebration I could find was one at the Heritage Center in Chicago, and there’s not much in the way of details on the site, at least that I could find in my half-assed scan.

It is entirely possible that a last-minute Chambana Bloomsday cabal will form and announce the takeover of some local beer-havin’ establishment for purposes of Joycean amusement and edification. This old event page has loads of links.

Is it really three years since we last put one on?
